Where are the rides from?

We’ve personally done over 150 of the rides in The Best Rides Atlas from the amazing A836 in Scotland to the steep and twisty B3276 in Cornwall, and from the sweeping A487 in Wales to the fast switchback B6047 in Leicestershire. The proof is at our website www.thebestrides.co.uk where we have over 500 rides and in excess of 100 pictures of rides taken by us. The rides have been collated from hours of research and interviews on the road, at café, at the NEC and the Alexandra Palace. We have also recently acquired www.motorcycleroadsonline.com which added to the database.

The rides are recommended by riders who have ridden them and we can honestly say we have yet to find a duff one! If your best ride is in the Atlas then add a review of it at www.thebestrides.co.uk. If it’s not in the Atlas then add it with a commentary.

What is the scale?

The maps of the rides use 9.9 miles to one inch mapping which has been specially lightened to make it easier to read on a motorbike and through a tank bag. On average in a straight line there are 70 miles to a page North to South and 45 miles East to West so you won’t have to keep stopping to turnover the page! The Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland Islands and Northern Ireland use a scale of 15.8 miles to the inch.
Urban approach maps use 1.3 miles to the inch.

What exactly does “tear proof” mean?

The Best Rides Motorcycle atlas has been manufactured from special paper which is very hardy and very very difficult to tear. It should last a long time. We have tested it throughly to ensure that it meets our claims and provides you with a quality product. The only point of weakness we have found is where the spiral binding goes through the pages, if you really want to break it you can, by pulling a single page out very sharply from the spiral binding, but other than that it should last you a long time. If it for some reason it doesn’t or you are not completely satisfied with The Best Rides Motorcycle Atlas the please contact us.

What is the EuroRAP Survey?

EuroRAP is The European Road Assessment Programme, a scientific study undertaken in 2005 looking at road safety throughout Europe. EuroRAP looks at road accidents and identifies which roads have the most accidents, who was involved and what caused them.

For your safety and awareness we have highlighted with yellow striping the rides which are rated High or Medium risk for Motorcyclists. We want you to use our Atlas for many years so please remember to take care and ride safely. For more information visit www.eurorap.org.
